Approaching Geometry with Ease
There were several challenges presented with the existing construction and the client’s request to create a completely bespoke design. The poorly oriented and deep footprint created complications for light and ventilation. The ceiling geometry, which intersected with the original warehouse roof trusses, was varied and undulated along the cross-section of the building. In that area, electrical and mechanical services were contained, which also created an abstract illusion of several houses within the main volume.
Engineering to Precision
The sketches came to life beautifully with our team’s commitment to detail and structural integrity. An extensive number of operable skylights were introduced on the north and south-facing roof pitches, and a large void connecting the ground and first floor was strategically positioned to also take advantage of this amenity. The centrepiece of the home is three adjoining skylights, which create the illusion of a single large window. Form meets function in the middle piece of the central skylight, which is fully operable with an electronic slide.
